Tembe Valley, Thessaly - Mount Olimp, Greece.
According to the legend, here Apollo saw Daphne, the beautiful daughter of a river god, and was struck by her beauty. He persistently pursued her, but Daphne, devoted to the life of a huntress and dismissing his advances, fled from him. Finally, in desperation, she called out to her father, the river god, for help. He then transformed her into a laurel tree just as Apollo caught up with her and embraced her. Though he lost Daphne as a nymph, Apollo then accepted the laurel as his sacred plant.
